Celebrity’s Very Own Garden of Eden
Celebrity Cruises recently announced yet another exciting new addition to one of their ships. On June 27, 2017, they revealed the next venue at the Celebrity Edge, which is their newest ship. It will start sailing in December, 2018.
Celebrity’s Very Own Garden of Eden
That unique venue is called “Eden”, an appropriate name for this lush, expansive and quite impressive venue space. Each of its elements and aspects boasting a cutting-edge, state-of-the-art design, Eden takes up no fewer than three decks at the Celebrity Edge’s aft. It features an incredible 7,000 square feet of glass alone, which together makes up the highest amount of outward-facing windows of any other room—any other ship, even—that’s currently at sea.
Eden’s total size is a huge 368,640 cubic feet, which makes it larger New York’s Hayden Planetarium. With its surface area of 12,650 square feet, it’s bigger than the atrium of Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum as well. Simply put, it’s a venue space of imposing proportions.
As impressive as those numbers may be, that’s not even why Eden will blow guests away. It’s the experience that awaits them that is going to be what sets it apart from all other venues on all other cruise ships.
Art-Inspired Design
Celebrity partnered with some of the world’s greatest designers, creators and innovators to design and develop Eden. And it clearly shows in the result. These talented people include Patricia Urquiola, a world-renowned designer for whom Eden was the first sea-based venue, and Scott Butler, an architect of Wilson Butler Architects. Also helping with the design of the venue was Variety Worldwide, creators of Queen of the Night and a collective that has combined out-of-the-box theater with nightlife and cuisine for many years.
Design can never be perfect if it doesn’t apply Fibonacci’s “golden spiral”, which is the universal ratio for beauty. Scott Butler understands this and has incorporated it into his design of Eden. The golden ratio is present abundantly in nature, from the flowers of roses to the shell of a snail. It invokes a sense of naturalness in everything and, as such, has been meticulously included into the design of Eden.
Guest won’t notice it specifically, yet it contributes to the overall natural feeling and comfort of this unique venue. Butler says: “When creating Eden, my goal was to create a connection to the sea in a space that will stir imaginations and leave lasting memories of the travel experience.”
Patricia Urquiola also contributed greatly to the standout design of Eden, being responsible for some of Eden’s major features. These include the exceptional hanging plants and the Tower of Plants, as well as her signature furniture. About this, Patricia says: “In working on Eden with Celebrity, I wanted to design a dynamic environment that changes from morning to night, so guests experience something new every time they visit.”
Mind-Blowing Experiences
This all obviously has resulted in a superb experience. Guests will delight in the personalized theatrical voyage offered at Eden. They’ll relish the opportunity to feel like they’re the center whatever evening event they’re attending.
Nature takes up a prominent position in Eden. As its name might imply, the space is decorated with lush greenery and plants, making it a verdant green oasis at sea. Celebrity calls it “a room that lives”. This lushness combined with its innovative design makes it the absolute ideal place to spend your days.
A Day in Eden
In the morning, you can head to Eden for some quiet contemplation, relaxation and peace of mind. While enjoying wide views of the seascape, you can indulge in your favorite book, a fresh cup of coffee and a small breakfast. Yoga classes are on offer as well.
Things turn a bit more playful as the afternoon rolls in. After lunch, Eden is the place to be for a variety of seminars and workshops, including everything from cocktail making to wine pairing. There’s a clear focus on culinary skills and knowledge. In the afternoon, guests can also see performances by musicians and performing artists.
Evenings are the epitome of everything that goes on at Eden. This is what it’s all about. After a fun day on the ship—or perhaps an excursion on land—, there’s an evening filled with entertainment, superb food, art and nightlife. Evenings in Eden are an explosion of sensory thrills. The Eden Restaurant is where you’ll find world-class cuisine in a series of surprising culinary creations.
After dinner, the focus of events shifts upstairs to Deck 5. At this fantastic level, the Library of Plants rises 18 feet over Eden Bar, which serves a wide range of artisanal cocktails. At Eden Bar, you’ll have the chance to dance, socialize and mingle well into the night, finishing off a memorable day in Eden.
Closer Look at Celebrity Edge
Designed to mix up the way people think about ocean cruises, Celebrity Edge is a groundbreaking new cruise ship. Scheduled to hit the seas in December of next year, it’s the ship that’s going to set Celebrity Cruises apart for its competition even more.
Its name is no coincidence, chosen deliberately and specifically because everything about the vessel—every design element, material and aspect—was taken to the very edge of what’s currently possible.
In addition to Eden, a ceiling-shattering new venue, Celebrity Edge has several other amazing features. Another venue worth visiting is the Magic Carpet. This engineering marvel, the first of its kind in the world, is a phenomenal floating platform reaching a height of thirteen stories above sea level. It moves up and down on the outside of the ship, changing purpose as it goes up or down. Its functions range from open-air dining room and full bar to an extension of the pool.
It’s these transformative outward-facing spaces designed to better connect guests with the sea, most notably Eden and the Magic Carpet, that will put Celebrity Edge at the very top of luxury cruise ships in the world. From December, 2018, onward, the ship will take passengers on a wonderful journey around the Caribbean. Departing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Celebrity Edge will cruise both the Eastern and Western Caribbean.
